Turboprop

Pilatus PC-12 · King Air 350

  • 6–9 seats
  • ~1,800 nm range
  • ~4.8 ft cabin

Turboprops such as the Pilatus PC-12 and King Air 350 fly slower than jets but cost the least per hour and use short runways that jets cannot. They suit trips of up to about 90 minutes, island hops and small mountain airports. The cabin is a seated one, and most have a small private lavatory.

Light jet

Phenom 300E · Citation CJ4 · Learjet 75

  • 6–8 seats
  • 2,000–2,150 nm range
  • 4.8–4.9 ft cabin

Light jets are the most chartered class in the US. A Phenom 300E, Citation CJ4 or Learjet 75 carries six or so passengers with bags for up to about three hours, cruising at roughly 450 knots. Headroom is under five feet, so you move around stooped, and baggage space fills fast with every seat taken.

Midsize

Citation XLS+

  • 7–9 seats
  • ~2,100 nm range
  • ~5.7 ft cabin

A midsize jet such as the Citation XLS+ flies about as far as a light jet, but the cabin is taller at around 5.7 feet, the lavatory is enclosed and there is more room for luggage. It is the comfortable choice for two- to four-hour trips and for groups of seven or eight.

Super-midsize

Challenger 350 · Citation Longitude · Praetor 600

  • 8–10 seats
  • 3,200–4,000 nm range
  • 6.0 ft cabin

Super-midsize jets such as the Challenger 350, Citation Longitude and Praetor 600 have a six-foot cabin, a flat floor and the range to cross the US nonstop in most conditions. They are the usual step-up when a trip runs past four hours or the group wants to stand, work and eat properly.

Large-cabin jets such as the Gulfstream G450, Challenger 650 and Falcon 2000LXS seat ten to sixteen, cross the Atlantic nonstop and offer separate seating areas, a full galley and seats that convert to beds. They suit overnight flights, larger groups and long days of travel.
